The Pilsen court will hear the case of a man from Mongolia who allegedly subjected his wife and three minor children to long-term abuse. If found guilty, he faces up to an eight-year prison sentence.
Mongolian man tried for domestic violence in Pilsen region
A case involving a man of Mongolian origin who resides permanently in the Czech Republic is coming before Pilsen District Court. The state prosecutor has charged him with abuse of persons sharing a common household, an offence punishable by up to eight years' imprisonment.
According to the indictment by state prosecutor Štefan Oravce, the man systematically abused his partner and three small children between August 2020 and January of this year. He intended to humiliate them and force them into obedience.
The woman was attacked several times a month. The defendant allegedly choked her, struck her in the face, and knocked her against objects in the flat. He insulted her with crude language and degraded her dignity.
The children had to be completely obedient. The sight of a whip in his hand made them cry. He allegedly beat his stepson for poor grades, untidiness, or poor care of his younger sibling and the flat. He threatened him that he would behave in such a way as to understand what he wanted from him simply by looking at his face.
During questioning, the woman minimised the violence. She said that in her native country it is common for a stepfather to use physical punishment when disciplining a stepchild.
The man admitted to the acts. He attributed them to arguments with his wife, who he claimed had a problem with alcohol. After demanding work, he said he had to care for the children alone, which frustrated him. He stated that he regrets his actions and wants to live with his family without aggression.
