Nineteen-year-old fraudster defrauded sellers at bazaars throughout the Moravian-Silesian region

According to policie.gov.cz, criminal investigators from the end of March through the end of August of this year clarified a total of 44 cases of fraudulent conduct perpetrated by a nineteen-year-old woman.

The woman searched for goods on classified websites in Havířov, Český Těšín, Opava, Ostrava and other towns in the Moravian-Silesian region. She was most frequently interested in electronics – mobile phones, tablets and notebooks – but also in e-bikes, tools or drugstore goods.

The procedure was identical each time. After telephonic agreement, she met with the seller in person and collected the goods. On the spot she promised payment via internet banking, but the money never arrived. In some cases, the damaged party generated a QR code for payment for her; the woman "scanned" it, but the transaction did not appear in their account. When sellers confronted her on the spot, she claimed to have a foreign bank and that the transfer would take longer – which they believed, and handed over the goods.

A commissioner from the 1st department of general crime in Karviná charged her with the offence of fraud. The total damage reached nearly 600,000 crowns. The accused admitted to the facts: she consumed the drugstore goods for her own needs, sold the other items and used the proceeds for food and accommodation. She is currently being prosecuted in custody. In the event of conviction, she faces up to five years deprivation of liberty.
