A student from the Vsetín region ended up in intensive care after consuming a synthetic substance purchased from a local shop.

A pupil from the Vsetín region was admitted to the intensive care unit at the T. Bati Regional Hospital in Zlín last week. The hospitalisation was caused by intoxication with a synthetic substance obtained for her by a friend. Detectives are now investigating the case.
As part of the investigation, police carried out several inspections at a shop in Vsetín where they seized suspicious material. Laboratory analysis confirmed that it was a synthetic cannabinoid listed among psychoactive substances, police spokeswoman Šárka Trnková told Novinky.cz.
According to experts, these artificially produced substances can cause serious and difficult-to-predict health complications. In minors, there is a particular risk of organ poisoning, unconsciousness, mental disorders or fatal consequences. In fact, even a minimal dose is sufficient, Trnková emphasised.
The authorities conducting the criminal proceedings warn that distributing banned substances to minors carries penalties even for individuals aged fifteen and above. Providing such a substance to a child can be considered a criminal offence regardless of whether the supplier has reached adulthood.
Police are calling on parents and teaching staff to carefully monitor their children's and pupils' surroundings. Timely conversation and active interest in their activities can prevent similar incidents, the spokeswoman added.
