Ondřej Prokop, former Prague leader of the ANO movement, has come under scrutiny from the tax authority. It will now examine how he acquired his assets. The referral for investigation was submitted by the Ministry of Justice, Seznam Zprávy reported.
Prokop failed to declare three apartments in the capital in his asset declarations. He later claimed this was an error and expressed willingness to pay a penalty for it. He explained the purchase of the properties by his own business activities and investment activities. With two of these apartments, a developer was involved to whom Prokop, as a councillor, had provided assistance.
Under pressure from the public and those around him, Prokop renounced his candidacy in the autumn municipal elections at the end of June and announced his withdrawal from all political positions.
Subsequently, the Conflict of Interest and Anti-Corruption Office at the Ministry of Justice began to deal with the case. Its staff confirmed the discrepancies in the declarations and referred them for further proceedings.
According to Markéta Poslušná, spokesperson from the Ministry's press office, the review of Prokop's declarations was concluded. "Based on the facts ascertained, on 8 July 2026 the matter was referred to the competent administrative offence authority in the place of permanent residence of the public official," she told the website.
The Ministry simultaneously sent a referral to the tax authority, which can call on Prokop to provide documentation for the origin of his assets. The website previously pointed out that the income stated in the declarations did not correspond to the value of the acquired assets by millions of crowns.
