Former mayor of the village of Březina near Brno and former member of the STAN movement Martin Habáň admitted on Wednesday at the District Court in Blansko to criminal conduct that the prosecutor had accused him of. The court imposed a fine on him for embezzlement and forgery of official documents of the municipality.
According to the indictment, Habáň manipulated official municipal documents while serving as mayor and abused his position for financial gain. Specifically, he was alleged to have forged official documents so as to conceal unlawful handling of municipal funds. The prosecutor also proved embezzlement against him, that is, unlawful handling of municipal property for his own benefit.
During the main hearing, the defendant admitted to everything and acknowledged his guilt. The court decided on a fine based on this admission and the evidence gathered. The exact amount of the sanction was not disclosed at the time of the verdict.
Habáň served as mayor of Březina in Blansko district and was a member of the STAN movement. Following the emergence of the affair, he left his position as mayor and withdrew from the political movement.
