Mass brawl in Žďár nad Sázavou: spade shafts as weapons, 25 identified
On Saturday, 17 October, shortly before seven o'clock in the evening, dozens of people from two hostile groups clashed in front of a house on Brodská Street in Žďár nad Sázavou. According to Blesk.cz, several police patrols had to arrive to calm the situation.
The incident took place in the part of the town known as Stalingrad. Police officers on the scene separated both sides from each other, and secured spade shafts and other items that some participants had prepared for mutual assault. "Police officers also secured spade shafts and other tools at the scene, which these people wanted to use for mutual assault," police spokeswoman Dana Čírtková told the Nova television.
Despite the scale of the clash, the brawl ended without serious injuries — some participants suffered only minor scratches.
The cause of the conflict appeared to be previous disputes on social media. A group of people from Chotěboř then travelled to Žďár nad Sázavou to settle the matter in person. Online arguments thus escalated into a physical altercation directly on the street.
Police identified approximately 25 people and are now investigating the case for suspicion of breach of the peace.
