The disciplinary senate of the Prague High Court has quashed a reprimand issued to state prosecutor Petra Lastovecká by the Olomouc chief prosecutor over an interview she gave to the media about the so-called bitcoin case.

The disciplinary senate of the Prague High Court has quashed a reprimand that Olomouc chief prosecutor Radim Dragoun imposed on state prosecutor Petra Lastovecká. The disciplinary proceedings were initiated due to her interview for the media, in which she commented on the so-called bitcoin case. The senate has returned the matter for new proceedings.
No appeal can be made against Tuesday's decision of the disciplinary body.
Lastovecká served as prosecutor in the case of Tomáš Jiříkovský, who was convicted of operating an illegal internet marketplace Sheep Marketplace and misappropriating the digital currency bitcoin worth hundreds of millions of crowns. During criminal proceedings, she gave an interview to the media in which she commented on the progress of the case.
Olomouc chief prosecutor Dragoun subsequently assessed her statement as a breach of duties of a state prosecutor and imposed a disciplinary measure in the form of a reprimand. Lastovecká defended herself against it before the disciplinary senate.
The Prague judges have now determined that the issued reprimand does not stand up to scrutiny and have returned the matter for reassessment. The final word will thus lie with the Olomouc chief state prosecutor's office again.
