Investigators in the Ústí region have concluded the preparatory proceedings in the case of the tragic fire that occurred at the U Kojota restaurant in Most. In connection with the incident, in which seven visitors lost their lives and ten further people were injured, they have recommended that the state prosecutor bring charges against two individuals. The information was reported by Czech Television.

Kamil Marek, spokesperson for the Ústí police, confirmed that the accused face a sentence of up to ten years' imprisonment in the event of conviction. The substantive charge being examined in the case concerns endangerment of the public through negligence.

The disaster occurred in January last year. At the time the fire started, there were several dozen guests in the establishment. The fire spread so quickly that some of those present had no chance to escape. Emergency services immediately arrived at the scene and transported the injured to hospitals.

The investigation was conducted by detectives working together with fire service experts, who determined the cause of the fire. During the investigation, police questioned dozens of witnesses and secured a number of pieces of evidence. The case file has now been forwarded to the state prosecutor's office with a recommendation to bring charges.

The case attracted significant attention in the region, as it was one of the most tragic commercial building fires in recent years. The families of victims and those injured have long called for swift clarification of the circumstances of the tragedy.
