The Regional Court in Pardubice is hearing a case involving a 33-year-old man accused of killing his wife in January 2025 in the Orlická Ústí area and then staging it to look like voluntary death. He faces the most severe penalty.

The Regional Court in Pardubice heard on the second day of the main trial from the 33-year-old defendant. According to the prosecutor, in January of last year in the Orlická Ústí area, he allegedly deprived his wife of her life and then arranged the entire situation to look like voluntary death. If found guilty, he faces the most severe possible sentence.
In court, the man recounted the circumstances of his partner's disappearance on 16 January 2025. Her remains were discovered by police only after three days – the woman lay suffocated in the forest inside a vehicle she regularly used, with a bag pulled over her head.
A farewell letter found by criminal investigators during a house search became crucial evidence. Hidden in a box with Christmas decorations, it was waiting in an envelope accompanied by a photograph of the husband. The defendant identified the text but did not mention it during initial interrogations. He later admitted he had first seen it on 9 January in his wife's notebook when he was searching her rucksack for stomach medication. He said he had copied the handwriting himself and printed it on his home printer on 16 January.
According to his testimony, a quarrel took place that same evening. His wife wanted to go prepare pastries, and he wanted to stop her whilst confronting her with the letter he had found. "I told her it frightened me in the context of what was happening," he told the court panel. His partner was allegedly angry that he had searched through her things and wanted to leave. This was followed by physical pushing, during which the man held the woman by the wrist. "She behaved like an eight-year-old girl," the defendant described.
The next morning the bed was empty. His wife had disappeared and on 19 January she was found dead. The contents of the farewell statement had not yet been read out in the courtroom.
