Detectives in the Trutnov region are investigating a case in which a nineteen-year-old suspect systematically abused his grandmother. He repeatedly beat the seventy-two-year-old woman, with whom he was temporarily living, and forced her to hand over money. Police made the case public on Wednesday.

The authorities learned of the situation on 6 June thanks to an anonymous caller who rang the emergency line. According to detectives' findings, the violence occurred between 1 and 6 June.

"Despite a contact ban, he repeatedly demanded financial amounts. When the elderly woman refused to provide them, he escalated his aggression and crude behaviour. He threatened the victim with attack and physically assaulted her many times," described police spokesperson Martina Jandová.

The man attacked the woman even when she was resting. "He inflicted injuries requiring medical treatment. During one of the incidents, she lost her teeth and broke a limb," Jandová added.

After each incident, the elderly woman, fearing for her life and health, handed over money to the attacker. The damage exceeded twenty thousand crowns. Investigators are establishing whether the suspect also misused her payment card without her consent.

For continued robbery, he faces a sentence of up to ten years imprisonment. The court is now holding him in a remand prison.
