Man sentenced to 27.5 years for repeated partner killing
A 36-year-old repeat offender has been sentenced by the Olomouc Regional Court to nearly thirty years in prison for stabbing his partner in Mírov. He committed the crime just 22 days after his release from prison, where he was serving a previous sentence for an almost identical act.

The Olomouc Regional Court has issued a verdict today against 36-year-old Patrik C., who killed his partner last autumn in the village of Mírov in the Šumperk district. The court imposed a sentence of 27.5 years imprisonment with conditions of extraordinary severity. The verdict is not yet final; the convicted man has retained the right to appeal.
The defendant attacked the woman with a kitchen knife in November of last year. According to the case file, he first stabbed her in the neck from behind, then continued his assault on her head. The total number of injuries reached 45, including 36 stab wounds to the neck and head area. During the aggression, he even managed to break the blade of his weapon.
The criminal act came just three weeks after the man's release from Mírov prison. There he had been serving a 16.5-year sentence for a 2014 murder, when he attacked another woman in Frýdek-Místek also with a knife. On that occasion, he inflicted the same number of wounds on her, 17 of them to the neck area. After the crime he called the police himself.
The presiding judge Jiří Barbořík characterised the act as extraordinarily serious and committed with a high degree of cruelty. When determining the sentence, he took into account the fact that the perpetrator had confessed his guilt before the court, given that the state's application sought 28 years. The court reportedly did not consider a life sentence because expert assessments found the possibility of future rehabilitation.
The defendant at trial claimed it was an outburst of emotion during a domestic dispute. He admitted to violating a conditional ban on alcohol consumption three times. After the crime he washed, changed his clothes and left by taxi for Šumperk. From there he had a patrol called from a petrol station in Zábřeh, confessing that he had committed the murder.
Prosecutor Tomáš Horák, who had years earlier assessed a request for early release, stated that the law did not allow him to prevent the perpetrator's return to serving his sentence. The perpetrator had served two-thirds of his sentence, had conducted himself exemplarily, completed a rehabilitation programme and showed no signs of deviance. Non-profit organisations provided a guarantee for him and he had secured accommodation and employment.
