A forty-year-old man attacked deputy mayor of Jirkov in the Chomutov region Josef Šebka on Monday morning. The incident took place directly in an office at the town hall, where the attacker assaulted the politician without warning.

Police officers detained the attacker and charged him with the criminal offence of violence against a public official. If found guilty, he faces a sentence ranging from three months to six years in prison.

Deputy mayor Šebek represents the political movement Svobodní. According to available information, the man entered the office and physically attacked him. Details about the motive for the attack are not yet known.
