Man drove borrowed car under the influence of drugs, attempted to flee from police
Patrols from Šlapanic in the Brno region detected a fifty-year-old man twice within a short time span who got behind the wheel of a borrowed motor vehicle whilst under the influence of drugs. His ability to drive was significantly impaired. He had three driving bans in force at the time.
During the second contact, he attempted to evade the patrol and ignored the order to stop. Officers managed to halt him only through coordination of several police teams and the deployment of a stopping strip, which he tried to drive around. Eventually, for unclear reasons, he lost control of the vehicle on the road and crashed.
The suspect refused to make any statement regarding the entire incident. Police handled the matter in expedited proceedings with his detention. He now faces charges of obstructing an official decision and endangering under the influence of a drug. Court proceedings will take place in the coming days.
Problems also await the owner of the borrowed vehicle, who must have the damaged car repaired. In addition, the damage to concrete safety barriers will need to be addressed, the cost of which is likely to exceed one hundred thousand crowns.
