Man bound dog with electrical tape and left it to suffer in abandoned building. Court imposed conditional sentence
The district court in Louny punished a fifty-five-year-old man with a conditional sentence and a ban on keeping animals for five years. Jiří Svoboda from a village in the Podbořansko region admitted guilt before the court for animal cruelty involving his dog.
The incident occurred after Svoboda decided to punish the animal for barking and howling. However, the method he chose was extreme. He tightly wrapped the dog's jaw and all four limbs with electrical insulation tape. He then carried it to an abandoned building, where he left the animal immobilised and without access to food or water.
The dog remained in this condition for several days. The exhausted and injured animal was eventually discovered by a woman from the neighbourhood, who noticed the unusual situation. Her intervention saved the animal's life.
During the main trial, Svoboda initially denied the charges, but later changed his testimony and confessed to everything. The judge therefore imposed a custodial sentence with conditional suspension and also ordered that he may not own any animal for a period of five years.
