Last 11 November around midday, a violent incident occurred in the Ústí district of Krásné Březno. The thirty-year-old defendant approached a man waiting at a bus stop, greeted him and then attacked him with a cold weapon to the neck area. The state prosecutor describes the act as attempted premeditated murder.

The Regional Court in Ústí nad Labem began hearing the case on Monday. The defendant Marek Sivák admitted to the act. In court, he testified that since the age of thirteen he had used narcotics, primarily methamphetamine and cannabis. He said he could not work because of frequent intoxication. His mother supported him financially and he lived in her flat.

When he was alone for longer periods, he allegedly fell into states with delusions. His mother occasionally had to call an ambulance. At the time of the incident, he allegedly attended outpatient psychiatric care.

On the day of the attack, he allegedly saw blood everywhere in the flat and tried to clean it up. He allegedly used methamphetamine for the last time approximately two weeks before the incident. A doctor in court stated that the drug caused him a toxic psychosis. "I kept having hallucinations," the defendant said.

The attacked man was in critical danger to his life following the assault. "There was a real risk of striking an artery; it only didn't happen by chance," said state prosecutor Vladimír Jan, who proposes a twelve-year sentence. If found guilty, Sivák faces up to twenty years in prison.

Plain-clothes police officers brought him into the courtroom from a psychiatric hospital in Horní Beřkovice. He previously spent eight months in a remand prison.
