The Czech police have initiated criminal proceedings against a 63-year-old man accused of the particularly serious crime of attempted murder. According to police.gov.cz, the incident occurred on Wednesday 7 October in the evening hours in a family home in Chlumec nad Cidlinou.
The attack was preceded by a conflict between two men who knew each other. The escalating situation resulted in a stabbing with a kitchen knife to the abdomen of a 38-year-old man, who sustained serious injuries to internal organs with massive blood loss and immediate threat to life.
The victim's life was saved by swift intervention from police officers from the district station in Chlumec nad Cidlinou, who provided first aid before the arrival of the emergency service. The patient was subsequently transported by air to the University Hospital Hradec Králové, where he remains hospitalised.
The accused had previously been repeatedly convicted by courts, however these were for less serious criminal activity unrelated to violent acts. If found guilty, he faces a sentence of imprisonment in the range of ten to eighteen years.
The court accepted the proposal for remand in custody, and the man will be prosecuted whilst in custody. The case continues to be investigated by regional detectives.
