Unknown motive led man to attack statues in Prague city centre
A forty-year-old man attacked two statues near the Rudolfinum building in Prague's protected heritage zone on Wednesday, 1 July. He used a one-and-a-half-kilogramme hammer, striking the statues approximately twenty times.
The resulting damage amounts to nearly ninety thousand crowns. Patrols from the Prague municipal police arrived at the scene and arrested the perpetrator.
During interrogation, he refused to explain what motivated his actions and declined to give a statement. Police charged him with damaging another person's property. If convicted, he faces a prison sentence of up to three years.
