Drunk scooter rider fled police in Prague, breathalyser showed over two parts per thousand

Scooter rider without a driving licence crashed on Janáček embankment following police chase

According to policie.gov.cz, police officers detained a scooter rider on Friday 25 September at around 8:30 p.m., who refused to stop for officers from the second police district in Prague.

The patrol had received a radio report that colleagues were being evaded by a motorcycle with two people without helmets. They located the scooter in Holečkova Street and attempted to stop it using visual and audio signals. The rider did not stop; instead, he attempted to flee — changing direction several times, riding on pavements and in areas with no-entry restrictions.

During one of the manoeuvres, the passenger fell from the rear seat. This did not prompt the rider to stop. The chase ended only when the rider crashed into a tree on Janáček embankment, where he fell from the motorcycle to the ground. With the help of coercive measures, the patrol prevented him from escaping.

Police officers then established the reasons for the escape: the man had no driving licence, a repeated breathalyser test showed more than two parts per thousand alcohol, and a drug test revealed the presence of methamphetamine.

The case is being investigated for the criminal offences of endangering under the influence of a narcotic substance, unauthorised use of another person's property, and damage to another person's property. If convicted, the perpetrator faces a custodial sentence of several years.
