Plzeň judges have sentenced a forty-four-year-old man from the Klatov area who violently assaulted an eighteen-year-old girl in Rejštejn in October 2022. The verdict is not final.

On Thursday, the Regional Court in Plzeň issued a non-final verdict against a forty-four-year-old man from the Klatov area. For a violent sexual assault on a recently of-age victim that took place in October 2022 in Rejštejn in the Sušice district, he was sentenced to eight years in a high-security prison. The defendant must also pay the victim financial compensation for trauma suffered, the amount of which is in the hundreds of thousands of crowns.
The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning when the eighteen-year-old girl was returning home from a celebration. The perpetrator, whom the victim knew from a previous encounter at the same event, attacked her from behind. He held her by the neck and prevented her from screaming. He then dragged her behind a church to an adjacent cemetery, where he forced her to engage in sexual intercourse under threat of further physical attack.
The young woman tried to resist – she kicked around herself. However, the aggressor continued to harm her with blows to the abdominal area and threatened to throw her from rocky terrain. The victim eventually stopped resisting and only asked for the assault to end. After the act, the perpetrator fled the scene.
During interrogation after his detention, the man claimed it was a consensual encounter. However, this version was contradicted by expert reports and the victim's testimony. A psychiatrist who examined the victim stated that the assault had caused her serious psychological difficulties lasting months. The girl described how she had to take medication for depression long-term after the incident and was afraid to leave her house. As a result of the trauma, she lost her partner and decided to relocate elsewhere.
