Tomáš Jiříkovský, convicted of computer crime, managed to withdraw bitcoins worth more than one billion crowns from a virtual wallet. He carried out the transfers on 6 March of this year, that is twenty-four hours before the official opening of the vault and presentation of the gift to the office led by then-Justice Minister Pavel Blažek. The information comes from a police file that was available to the editors of Novinky.cz.
Investigators established that in six separate operations within eleven minutes, the businessman transferred 546.646 bitcoins to a foreign address. He had access to this after the judicial authorities returned electronic devices to him. The original balance in the account connected to the Nucleus Market portal was, according to detectives' findings, over 1,561 bitcoins.
In connection with the case, a sixty-five-year-old Brno lawyer, Kárih Titz, also faces charges. Detectives accuse him of assisting in the transfer of illegally obtained assets to various cryptocurrency addresses, thereby concealing their origin. Part of the funds was allegedly meant to end up in accounts directly under his control.
The pair allegedly agreed on a gift of 468 bitcoins to the state agency. The public ceremony took place on 7 March in the presence of a notary and Deputy Radomíř Daňhel.
