Major action against crypto fraudsters affects Czech Republic and Slovakia

Google News CZ — Crime (cs) reports on a major operation that criminal investigators from the National Centre Against Organised Crime (NCOZ SKPV) launched in recent days in a joint investigative team with the Slovak National Centre for Specific Types of Crime (NCODK).

The subject of the investigation is the operation of fraudulent internet platforms and call centres operating under the trade names SEIF.DAO, SEIF.DAO.FINANCE and SEIF.FINANCE. Through these platforms, clients were offered profitable investments in cryptocurrencies, which were never actually realised.

During the operation, a series of house searches and searches of other premises took place on the territory of both states. Police detained several persons and secured assets in the form of financial funds, cryptocurrencies, vehicles and real estate worth millions of crowns.

Criminal prosecution was initiated against 8 individuals and 2 legal entities for the crimes of fraud and money laundering. The identified damage amounts to hundreds of millions of crowns and the number of victims exceeded one thousand. The court placed a total of 6 accused in custody.

The case is being supervised by the Municipal State Prosecutor's Office in Prague and the Regional Prosecutor's Office in Bratislava. In the event of conviction, the perpetrators face imprisonment of up to ten years.

Personnel from the Financial Analytical Office, Europol and Eurojust participated in the case. Criminal investigators from NCOZ repeatedly urge citizens to exercise caution when investing in cryptocurrencies, particularly if the offers appear to be unusually favourable.
