A forty-year-old woman from Jesenicko fell victim to fraudsters who posed as a banker and a police officer. They persuaded her to transfer money to a "safe account", depriving her of more than 160,000 crowns.

A forty-year-old resident of Jesenicko lost more than 160,000 crowns after falling for a telephone fraud. The perpetrators first introduced themselves as employees of her bank, and later a man claiming to be a police officer joined the conversation.
The group convinced the woman that unauthorised transactions posed a threat to her account. To protect her funds, she was allegedly required to transfer them to a so-called reserve account. The victim complied with their instructions and sent the fraudsters a total of more than 160,000 crowns in four separate payments.
"The opposite was true and the victim lost more than 160,000 crowns, which she sent to the fraudsters in four payments," said police spokesperson Jaroslav Herzán.
Only afterwards did the woman realise that she had been deceived and contacted the police. Detectives initiated criminal proceedings in the case on suspicion of committing the crime of fraud. If convicted, the perpetrators face up to a five-year sentence of imprisonment.
