Fraudster on dating app defrauds Olomouc man of 5.5 million crowns
A 45-year-old man from Olomouc lost more than 5.5 million crowns due to a fraudulent acquaintance he made through the Tinder application. Police are searching for the perpetrator.
Man from Olomouc loses 5.5 million crowns through Tinder
A 45-year-old resident of Olomouc became the victim of financial fraud which, through the dating platform Tinder, resulted in a loss of over 5.5 million crowns. He reported the case to police on Saturday 28 June.
According to information from the Noviny.sk website, the man made contact with an unknown person via a mobile application. The perpetrator subsequently persuaded him to invest his savings in what appeared to be a profitable business.
The total amount the man transferred reached the value of 5,500,000 Czech crowns, which corresponds to approximately 226,654 euros. Police are now actively searching for the identity of the fraudster and investigating where the money actually went.
In the event of apprehension, the perpetrator faces up to an eight-year prison sentence for the crime of fraud. Investigators are appealing to citizens to be cautious when dating online and never to send money to people they do not personally know.
This case is not isolated. Fraudsters often use dating platforms to build trust and subsequently extract money from victims. Experts warn that perpetrators typically create fake profiles with attractive photographs and gradually manipulate the victim into transferring money.
