Missing Jana Šerjeníková from Frýdek-Místek: police investigating four theories
The thirty-eight-year-old mother of two disappeared on 3 September, and nearly a month after her disappearance, no one has yet found her. Police are working with four theories, and the family and friends are in shock.

Nearly a month has passed since Jana Šerjeníková from Frýdek-Místek vanished without trace. As denik.cz reported, officers on Tuesday released details of the investigation and confirmed that the woman has not yet been found.
The thirty-eight-year-old assistant judge in the commercial division of the Regional Court in Ostrava left her home on Thursday, 3 September — a day after her birthday. She took with her a knife and a bicycle light with batteries, but did not take her mobile phone or identification documents.
"In recent times she had been in an unfavourable mental state. She tried to seek help on her own," said Martin Lichý, deputy chief of the Moravian-Silesian Police, who described her departure on that fateful day as non-standard.
Four equally viable theories
Detectives are currently working with four investigative theories: voluntary departure with the intention of starting a new life, suicide, unintentional crime — for example a traffic accident — and intentional crime.
"All theories are equally viable. We are not prioritising any of them," Lichý emphasised. Regarding questions about the missing woman's family situation, he added: "No negative relationships have been recorded."
Search crosses Czech borders
Officers searched Ostrava and Frýdek-Místek, and also focused on the area around the Beskid reservoirs and mountain cottages. The search gradually expanded to cover the whole of the Czech Republic and the Schengen area.
Jana Šerjeníková may have been wearing a black long-sleeved hoodie and a hood, shiny dark leggings, beige lace-up boots and a grey rucksack when she left.
Husband sends public message
The missing woman's husband, Jan Šerjeník, appealed directly to his wife through TV Nova last week. "Hello Janičko, our mother. Whatever troubles or afflicts you, it is not a reason to suppress your emotions and not be able to share them with us at home and confide in us. There is nothing that we as a family could not overcome. After all, you know that we love you very much and cannot imagine life without you. Please just somehow let us know that you are all right. Your Honza," he wrote.
According to his LinkedIn profile, Jan Šerjeník has been working for fifteen years at a multinational company in the electrical sector with a large office in Ostrava, where he specialises in designing low-voltage switchboards for oil and gas platforms. Colleagues from the firm who spoke to denik.cz agree that he always appeared calm and entirely normal.
"What has happened defies all logic"
Jana Šerjeníková's disappearance is also not understood by her close friend Petr Liberda, who spoke to TV Nova. "Jana is an unproblematic girl, educated. What has happened defies all logic. Her husband is waiting for her at home, two children, friends. Let her come back," said Liberda and added: "They lived together, a nicely furnished flat, no debts, no excesses, always positive and willing to help."
