The Czech Republic police detained the suspect at the scene shortly after the incident during the night of Monday, 5 October.

According to police.gov.cz, patrols responded to the casino on Nitranská Street in Liberec shortly before 4 a.m. after a report of a physical assault. In the incident between two men, a casino employee was injured and was transported to Liberec hospital by the Emergency Medical Service of the Liberec Region.

The second man, a casino visitor, was detained at the scene and placed in police custody. Officers immediately initiated criminal proceedings — securing and evaluating evidence and traces, conducting interviews with witnesses and other persons.

The case was taken over by regional detectives in Liberec, who are pursuing the suspect for the exceptionally serious crime of attempted murder. He faces a prison sentence of up to 18 years for this offence. A senior police commissioner lodged a motion for the suspect to be remanded in custody; the judge approved the motion on Wednesday.

The investigation into the case is continuing.
