A fifty-year-old man is suspected of robbery after attacking and beating a ten-year-old schoolgirl in the centre of Krnov. The girl ended up in hospital.

On Monday afternoon, a violent act against a small child took place in the centre of Krnov in the Bruntál district. A ten-year-old schoolgirl was stopped in a passageway by an unknown perpetrator who demanded money from her. After the child told him she had no cash, he brutally assaulted her. He then fled the scene across the road near a roundabout in the direction of a car park by a convenience store.
The girl suffered injuries and had to be taken to hospital, where she was hospitalised. The father of the injured child immediately got involved in the search for the perpetrator and appealed through social media for witnesses to come forward. The police also released this appeal.
"Thanks to the released information and appeal, we managed to obtain a nickname of a possible suspect. Subsequently, on the basis of operative activities, information obtained and especially local and personal knowledge, detectives managed to identify a possible suspect," said police spokeswoman Eva Michalíková.
The suspect is a fifty-year-old man who is currently in police custody. "Criminal proceedings have been initiated in the matter for suspicion of committing the crime of robbery. Detectives are working intensively on the whole case, establishing all circumstances related to this incident and are also investigating other possible investigative lines," the spokeswoman added. Police also thanked citizens for the information provided, which is still being evaluated.
