Police from seven countries arrested 28 men suspected of child sexual abuse
During a large-scale international operation coordinated by Europol, twenty-eight men ended up in police custody. Arrests took place in the Czech Republic, Canada, Germany, Norway, Poland, Sweden and Switzerland. The men, aged between 22 and 54, face charges in connection with criminal activity linked to child sexual abuse.
The raids were carried out between the end of May and mid-June. Investigators seized over four hundred and sixty various items during the operations, including electronics, virtual currency wallets, narcotics and performance-enhancing substances. Three children were simultaneously rescued.
The suspects allegedly purchased and exchanged illegal materials through hidden forums on the dark web. They used digital currencies to gain access to these platforms. Norwegian security forces contributed to uncovering the network using a new technique for tracing cryptocurrency payments, which led to the identification of users and two distributors of prohibited content.
Among those arrested is an individual who used artificial intelligence tools to generate child pornographic material. In one case, the victims were among the perpetrator's closest relatives.
Europol ensured liaison between individual national teams, processed information and passed on evidence. The investigation continues and further arrests are expected in the future.
