Specialist in nocturnal pharmacy break-ins brought before court

Rumburk police have solved a series of five break-ins at retail shops that occurred during September in Rumburk and Varnsdorf. According to policie.gov.cz, the 35-year-old suspect targeted pharmacies in particular, breaking in during night and early morning hours.

He reportedly broke into one Rumburk pharmacy three times and into another such shop in Varnsdorf. From the stores he took pharmacy goods, cosmetics, perfumes and electric toothbrushes. Each time he forced his way in, he also caused damage to property.

The last incident occurred again in Rumburk, where the man allegedly broke into a sports goods shop together with another person. Police detained him following this break-in.

During the investigation, police gathered information and evidence linking the individual offences. The man confessed to all the break-ins. The theft of goods caused damage of more than 180,000 crowns, and damage to property caused an additional loss exceeding 120,000 crowns. The total amount of damage thus exceeded 300,000 crowns.

Police also established that the man had been convicted in the recent past of similar property-related criminal activity. He was informed of suspicion of committing the offences of theft and damage to another's property under the accelerated shortened preparatory proceedings regime. Within 48 hours of his detention, he appeared before court, which imposed an unconditional custodial sentence on him.
