A patrol from the motorway division of Postoloprty caught a man at the wheel of a Dodge RAM 2500 Double Cab pickup on the D7 motorway who was transporting a significant quantity of fuel without complying with safety regulations. The incident was recorded on the police website Policie ČR.
Law enforcement officers spotted the vehicle at the 37.5 kilometre mark in the direction of Prague. Upon inspection, they discovered that on the truck bed were two plastic tanks of one thousand litres each. Inside was motor diesel fuel, which according to the driver's statement he used for agricultural purposes. The total volume of liquid being transported reached 1980 litres.
Such a quantity falls under the international ADR agreement on the transport of dangerous goods by land. The driver admitted that he was aware of this, but wanted to make only one journey instead of travelling repeatedly with a smaller load. He therefore decided to circumvent the rules.
Transporting such a large volume of fuel without meeting legal requirements, however, endangers not only the driver himself but also other motorists. The case will be referred to the administrative authority, which can impose a penalty of up to 500,000 crowns.
Police warn that regulations for the transport of dangerous substances have real significance. They serve to reduce the risk of accidents, fires or leaks of harmful substances that could seriously damage people's health and the environment.
