President Pavel's driver confirmed sentence for driving under the influence of alcohol
The District Court in Hradec Králové on Monday definitively dismissed an appeal by Vojtěch Kopp, who served as driver to President Petr Pavel. The district court in Náchod had previously found him guilty of a traffic accident under the influence of alcohol.
The incident took place in the village of Česká Čermná in the Náchod district. Kopp got behind the wheel whilst on official standby and crashed. At the time of the accident, President Pavel was not in the vehicle.
The verdict means the end of his service relationship with the police. Kopp became the first driver of a head of state who was convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol whilst performing his duties.
