Fraudsters tricked a woman from the Prostějov region out of nearly seven million crowns through a bogus investment in cryptocurrency. The deception was only revealed after she consulted an AI chatbot.

A pensioner from the vicinity of Prostějov lost her lifetime savings and borrowed funds to internet fraudsters who deceived her. They promised to increase her funds through digital currency. She discovered the tempting offer on a website in September of last year, filled out a form, and thus came to the attention of the scammers. Police spokesperson Libor Hejtman provided this information.
Soon an unknown woman called her asking how much she wanted to earn. The victim said she had no experience with trading and wanted to try it. She did not, however, disclose her financial capacity. Afterwards, an alleged financial expert began working with her, pressuring her to participate in arbitrage with the possibility of gaining a large sum. According to him, it was a unique opportunity.
The victim was reluctant, but the false advisor persuaded her. After some time, she received a message saying she had won nearly half a million dollars, over ten million crowns. She was supposed to transfer this into virtual currency and continue to increase it. When she attempted to get the money into her own account, she was unsuccessful. She subsequently paid various fees to supposedly claim her winnings.
From September 2025 to mid-June 2026, she transferred nearly 8.6 million crowns abroad. Approximately 1.6 million came back to her. In June she began to suspect something was wrong and asked artificial intelligence, which confirmed her concerns. Apart from her own savings, she also lost funds borrowed from her family.
