Olomouc court acquits 13 people and two companies in alleged fuel tax evasion case
The Olomouc regional court ruled on the acquittal of thirteen natural persons and two legal entities in an extensive criminal proceedings concerning alleged tax evasion in fuel trading. This was reported by ČT24.
The total amount of allegedly unpaid taxes reached 250 million crowns according to the original indictment. According to the state prosecutor, the companies FAU from Opava and Verami International Company from Vyškov were allegedly using chain trading of goods to avoid tax obligations when purchasing fuel.
The presiding judge Eduard Ondrášek stated that whilst damage to the state treasury did occur, it was not possible to definitively prove that the specific defendants were responsible for it. All the accused maintained their innocence throughout the four-year court proceedings.
Originally, sixteen people were charged. Three of them were returned by the judge to the preparatory proceedings, against which the prosecutor filed a complaint. During the proceedings, dozens of witnesses testified, including senior politicians.
