The state prosecutor has filed charges against a man accused of espionage for the Chinese intelligence service. This is the first person prosecuted under this statute in Czechia.
State prosecutor indicts Chinese spy. First prosecution under new statute
Prague Municipal Court will hear the case of a man whom the state prosecutor has charged with espionage. According to investigators, he worked for the Chinese intelligence service.
Court spokesperson Kateřina Eliášová confirmed that charges have been filed. The man is being prosecuted for the criminal offence of unauthorised activity on behalf of a foreign power. This legal classification is new in Czech criminal law.
This is the first accused person who faces prosecution precisely under this provision. The case was investigated by Czech police and is now moving into the court phase.
