State prosecutor rejects complaints from accused highway police officers in Brno region
State prosecutor Jan Fichtner from the Jihlava office of the Regional State Prosecutor's Office in Brno has rejected all complaints against the initiation of criminal proceedings against police officers from the highway patrol unit in Domašov in the Brno region. Nineteen of the total 20 accused men filed appeals against the initiation of criminal proceedings, according to iDNES.cz.
The police officers face accusations of abuse of power by an official and accepting bribes. They filed their complaints in early March. The prosecutor has now dismissed all objections.
Indictments in this case have not yet been filed. The case concerns the activities of police officers from the highway patrol unit who, according to the investigation, allegedly acted unlawfully in their official capacity and accepted bribes. The investigation is continuing.
Fichtner's decision means that the criminal proceedings against the 20 police officers may continue. The case is also being monitored by the police presidency, as it involves serious suspicion of corruption within the ranks of law enforcement.
