A former physical education teacher from the Klatovy region, Miroslav K. (31), will serve his sentence for the abuse of pupils outside prison walls. The Regional Court in Plzen reconsidered on Thursday the original decision of the district court, which had handed him a two-year custodial sentence. The appellate court instead imposed a two-year suspended sentence with probation for five years and banned him from working in education for ten years. The verdict has become legally binding.
In 2022, the 31-year-old teacher allegedly approached four girls from the school where he taught. He requested that two of them send him photographs of their naked bodies. In return, he sent them his own nude images via the internet. These two students blocked him after a short time. With a third minor, he exchanged erotic material for approximately six months, during which there was allegedly physical contact according to the charges.
The state prosecutor pursued charges against the man for sexual abuse, endangering the moral upbringing of minors and child sexual abuse material production. The presiding judge of the appellate panel, Alice Bártová, stated at the verdict that the accused exploited his position as a person of trust and did not confess to the offence. However, she also acknowledged that the man has no prior criminal record and is currently employed outside of education. According to her, a longer probation period combined with a long-term ban from teaching will be more effective than immediate imprisonment.
The convicted man must pay compensation to the injured girls in the amount of 60,000 crowns.
