Heightened security measures were in effect on Tuesday in the seven-thousand-strong town of Nový Bydžov in the Hradec Králové region. Local town hall preventively locked down primary schools and its own building. Concerns about a possible shooting attack spread among the parents of schoolchildren.

The reason was an extensive search for a dangerous armed man, which police launched in the early morning hours. The wanted individual, in poor mental condition, may have intended to go to Bydžov due to family ties. However, no one knew whether he was actually in the town.

Police searched at several locations across the Czech Republic. Around 2 p.m., they managed to apprehend the man in Prague.
