Vandals spray-painted rocks in Bohemian Paradise, police search for perpetrators

Spray painters targeted protected landscape near Sedmihorky

Sandstone rocks, an educational trail and rock formations in the Hrubokalsko area of the Bohemian Paradise were sprayed with paint between 10 and 12 June. The vandalism was discovered by an instructor from Autocamp Sedmihorky during a nature stay with children, according to Novinky.cz.

Regional police spokesperson Ivana Baláková described the extent of the damage: "They spray-painted sandstone stairs on the Children's Educational Trail at Sedmihorky near Josefo's Spring with blue paint, including a small wall, and in part of the rock formation known as Hrubokalsko, called Markův kout, they spray-painted two rock formations with black paint." The spray painters also left marks on a small bridge over the Libuňka stream near the educational trail.

The case is now being investigated by police in Turnov as a property damage offence committed by spray painting. They are actively searching for the perpetrator or perpetrators. "It is possible that someone witnessed the vandals during their activity or recognises their style," said spokesperson Baláková. Witnesses can contact the emergency line 158.

The Bohemian Paradise Protected Landscape Area administration is also addressing the situation. According to their representatives, spray-painting rock formations carries a potential fine of up to 20,000 crowns. The administration is now seeking a way to remove the graffiti from the rocks as carefully as possible.

Radka Tomášková, head of the administration's department, described the case as exceptional: "As far as I can remember, we have not dealt with spray-painted rocks in the Bohemian Paradise before." In the past, conservationists in the area have primarily dealt with carving into the sandstone.
