The appeals court in the capital accepted a complaint from the convicted man of pensionable age, who faces a twelve-year prison sentence for the murder of his flatmate. The original court, in addition to the custodial sentence, ordered him to pay the victim's surviving daughter compensation of 500,000 crowns for damages. The convicted man, however, claimed this sum was excessively high.

He argued that a long-standing and deeply conflicted relationship existed between the murdered woman and her daughter. The appellate panel accepted this claim and reduced the compensation to 350,000 crowns. The ruling was issued on Tuesday.

The case concerns a murder that took place in Přelouč. An elderly man killed his flatmate, for which he was sentenced to a twelve-year prison term by the first-instance court.
