The High Court in Prague on Wednesday handed down a final sentence of eight years imprisonment to Ondřej Malý for attempted murder. The incident took place in the Severní Terasa park in Ústí nad Labem, where the defendant stabbed a man.
The lower court originally found Malý guilty of attempted killing and sentenced him to four years in prison. However, the Supreme Public Prosecutor's Office appealed against this. The Supreme Court granted their appeal, annulled the previous judgment and returned the case for retrial.
The appellate panel subsequently reclassified the offence as attempted murder, which led to a harsher sentence. The decision is now final.
