Woman stabbed ex-partner in the neck, claims she wanted to prevent his suicide
Twenty-four-year-old Jennyfer Takačová faces attempted murder charges at the Regional Court in Prague. She stabbed a man in the neck after they allegedly agreed on a joint suicide pact.

Twenty-four-year-old Jennyfer Takačová stood before Prague's regional court facing charges of attempted murder. In January of this year in Příbram, she drove a knife into the neck of her former partner. She faces a potential sentence of up to twenty years. However, she herself claims she wanted to save the man's life.
The defendant and the injured party, according to their accounts, both suffered from long-term mental health problems. Takačová described to the court that over the previous year she had contemplated suicide. "I felt so bad that I wanted it all to end," she said. However, each time she found a reason to postpone her intention.
At the beginning of the year, her flatmate and ex-partner came to her saying he wanted to die. "We talked, he told me himself that he had been thinking about committing suicide," she continued. The news upset her, she said. Instead of pursuing her own suicidal plan, she began looking for ways to dissuade him from his intention.
"He wanted to die himself and told me so to help him. I refused to help him in my heart," she testified. "I came to the conclusion that the only way to stop him from jumping off a bridge was to stab him very slightly now, so he would think he was dying, but he wouldn't actually die."
The defendant further stated that they agreed on the attack while he was asleep. "I stabbed him very lightly in a place where I knew I wouldn't hurt him. Because it was in the neck, he would think he was dying," she described. The wound was shallow, approximately two centimetres deep. When the man said he no longer wanted to die, she called the emergency services.
However, Takačová originally told police something different. She claimed the plan was that she would first kill her partner and then turn the knife on herself. She explained this discrepancy by fear that the injured party would perceive her backing away from the joint plan as a betrayal. She also told police about some "entity that guided her hand".
"It was absolutely something crazy that occurred to me. It should never have happened, I should have handled it better," she regretted. "I regret what I did. I didn't want to hurt him. I know I deserve punishment for hurting him, but to be punished for something I didn't do and didn't plan to do…"
The injured party confirmed in court that at the time of the incident he had suicidal tendencies because of unemployment, financial difficulties and anxiety states. He also confirmed the agreement about being stabbed while asleep. According to his account, he has no lasting consequences from the attack other than a scar on his neck. He has remained in a friendly relationship with the defendant and visits her in custody.
At the next hearing, experts in psychology and psychiatry are to testify. The court will then deliver its verdict.
