The Ostrava Regional Court, Olomouc division, began hearing on Wednesday with thirty-eight-year-old Michaela Cao. The prosecution alleges she attempted to murder her partner, which allegedly occurred on 18 November last year in a rented flat in Olomouc. The woman allegedly stabbed the man with a kitchen knife with a blade longer than twenty-one centimetres in the chest. Should the court find her guilty, it may impose a sentence of up to eighteen years. In court she admitted she attacked her partner but denied that she wished for his death.
The couple had rented an apartment for the night. They spent the evening in the company of two friends, during which Cao prepared minced meat. After their departure, the couple remained alone, and in the morning a quarrel broke out that escalated into violence.
The blow struck the chest area, where vital organs are located. The man suffered a stab wound that penetrated the chest cavity and struck his lung. Without rapid medical assistance, his life could have been in danger.
In court, the woman described her relationship with the injured man as predominantly harmonious. Conflicts allegedly arose because of his fraudulent activities. "When he wasn't committing fraud, it was fine. I was bothered by the fact that it revolved around me. He abused my friends. He obtained their account numbers and sent money to them that he had extracted from people. Because of that we would sometimes quarrel and push each other," she said.
According to her version, everything began when her partner was not paying attention to her and instead was dealing with his fraudulent activities on his phone. "I grabbed his phone and pushing started. We kicked each other. Then he wanted to steal the television from the apartment, which I refused. I was afraid that I would end up in prison," she explained.
At the time of the incident, she was under the influence of pervitin, which she injected intravenously. "I have been taking it for twenty years, intravenously for about two years. After that I am usually out of it. That is what happened that day," she said. She used the knife to discourage her partner from the theft.
"If there had been a frying pan, I would have taken the frying pan. But there was only the knife that I had used in the evening to cut the minced meat. I started waving it with it. He kept jumping from the bed to the television, saying he would take it, over and over again. In doing so I struck him. I was not aware of it at all, I felt no resistance. I did not intend to hurt him," she described.
After that, she saw that he was holding his chest and bleeding. "I told him to call the ambulance. He replied that he would do it and say that someone else had stabbed him. He sent me out. I did not know how serious it was. I only found out later when I called him in the hospital after the operation," she added.
