A twenty-seven-year-old woman attacked her boyfriend with a knife, he survived thanks to rapid assistance. The regional court in Brno sentenced her to three years in prison with a five-year suspended sentence.

A twenty-seven-year-old woman from Jihlava attacked her partner with a knife and inflicted serious abdominal injuries on him. Although the state prosecutor demanded a sentence of up to eighteen years for attempted murder, the Brno regional court ultimately sentenced her to three years imprisonment with a five-year suspended sentence. The incident occurred in early November two years ago in one of the apartments in Jihlava.
The couple had returned from a family celebration, where the man had once again staged a jealous scene. The injured party threw a glass at the woman, verbally insulted her, hit her on the shoulder and kicked her in the thigh. When she went into the kitchen, he followed her and continued the aggression. At that moment she took a knife with a blade seventeen centimetres long and told him to stop. He continued approaching her, so she stabbed him.
The wound severed stomach veins and injured the stomach, its contents spilling into the abdominal cavity. The woman did not panic—she immediately pressed a towel to the wound and called an ambulance. This rapid reaction, together with emergency surgery, saved the man's life. According to an expert opinion, he lost two and a half to two thousand seven hundred millilitres of blood and entered a state of shock with the development of septic shock.
The panel of Judge Michal Zámečník in a verdict from early June found that the woman's actions eliminated the danger of fatal consequences. It therefore reclassified the act as serious assault. The court at the same time rejected her claim of necessary self-defence—it did not consider the use of a knife against verbal threats to be proportionate. The verdict has not yet become final, as an appeal has been filed, which will be examined by the Supreme Court in Olomouc.
