A 45-year-old woman from the Klatovy region physically attacked her mother, forbade her religious practices, and would wake her at night by dragging her out of bed. The district court imposed a three-year prison sentence with a five-year suspension.

The district court in Klatovy on Thursday sentenced a 45-year-old woman for abusing her own mother. She received a three-year sentence with a five-year suspension. The verdict is not yet final.
The presiding judge Jan Kasal stated that the court found the defendant guilty of abusing a person with whom she shared a household. Expert examination did reveal a personality disorder in the perpetrator, but this does not exempt her from criminal responsibility. "She retained the capacity to recognise the danger of her behaviour and to control her actions," Kasal emphasised.
The violence by the daughter lasted from May 2024 to September of the following year. The assaulted mother, who was 69 years old, had to endure blows from her fists. On one occasion, the attacker smashed a ceramic plate against her head. In addition to physical attacks, she forbade her from attending services and would wake her at night by pulling her out of bed by her leg.
The victim had to visit hospital several times. Doctors recorded fractures in her case. Nevertheless, she always told staff that she had caused the injuries herself by accident.
Psychiatrists described serious consequences for the mother's mental health. She suffered from anxiety disorders, depression, and fear. She could not sleep and, due to loss of appetite, lost considerable weight. Her overall quality of life deteriorated significantly.
Notably, the mother remains emotionally dependent on her daughter and excuses her behaviour. According to experts, she is guided by deep Christian faith, which leads her to prioritise the needs of others. She attempts to cope with stress through prayer.
The daughter forbade the mother religious activities, claiming that through prayer her soul was drowning even deeper and an evil spirit might come upon her.
