The Přerov district court on Wednesday convicted three men who disrupted traffic on the main railway line near Lipník nad Bečvou for twenty hours and caused damage totalling 2.5 million crowns.

The Přerov district court on Wednesday ruled on the guilt of three offenders who last year stole safety cables on the corridor line near Lipník nad Bečvou in the Přerov district. Their action disrupted traffic on the main railway line for twenty hours and caused damage amounting to 2.5 million crowns.
The court imposed unconditional custodial sentences on the men ranging from one year and three months to three and a half years. All three must also jointly and severally pay one million crowns. When delivering the verdict, the judge presiding over the panel, Jan Rektor, emphasised that the accused must have been aware of the importance of the cabling for operations on the line.
The theft occurred on a significant railway line that serves as a backbone connection within Czech transport infrastructure. The perpetrators cut security cables, which led to the disruption of operations for twenty hours. The damage totalled 2.5 million crowns.
According to the court, the perpetrators must have realised that the cables served the railway line and were essential for its operation. The court took into account the importance of the damaged infrastructure and the fact that it is a state-protected transport route.
The verdict is not yet final. The accused and the state prosecutor have retained the right to appeal.
