The driver of an Audi RSQ8 with approximately 600 horsepower evaded a police checkpoint and fled over a kilometre-long stretch through the city and on the A661 motorway. The investigation against him concerns the suspected endangerment of road traffic and illegal motor racing.
At around 21:35, a police patrol spotted a dark grey Audi RSQ8 in the Bismarckstraße/Waldstraße area driving at significantly excessive speed. When officers caught up with the vehicle on Waldstraße at the level of Christian-Pleß-Straße and gave hand signals to stop, the driver abruptly turned and accelerated hard.
The subsequent flight led through Offenbach's city area. The 19-year-old is said to have run several red lights, passed through junctions at times without braking, and reached speeds of over 100 km/h within city limits – also in unclear residential areas. Other drivers were endangered by close tailgating, risky overtaking manoeuvres and abrupt lane changes. Several road users reportedly had to brake hard or swerve to prevent collisions.
The escape route ran via Waldstraße, Geleitsstraße, Rathenaustraße and Taunusring onto the A661 heading south. On the motorway too, the driver is said to have overtaken other vehicles at high speed with minimal safety distance and changed lanes several times.
In the area of the Langen exit, the Audi left the motorway and continued via Hans-Kreiling-Allee and Bahnstraße. On Friedrichstraße, officers finally lost sight of the vehicle.
As part of the subsequent investigation, the suspected driver was traced to the registered keeper's address. The Audi RSQ8 was seized, and the man's driving licence and mobile telephone were confiscated.
