Sabotage on Saxony's high-voltage power lines: 21 explosive devices found
Tagesschau.de reports that following sabotage attempts on the electricity network in Upper Lusatia last Friday, nine additional explosive devices were discovered and rendered safe. A total of 21 home-made devices threatened electrical infrastructure in Saxony. This was announced on Monday by the General State Prosecutor's Office Dresden and the Saxony State Criminal Police Office.
According to reports, all 21 devices were positioned in the immediate vicinity of high-voltage power lines south of the Graustein switching station near Schleife in Görlitz district. The police operation on site extended from Friday to Sunday.
According to the investigating authorities, the devices were intended to cause damage to the electricity infrastructure through short circuits. The power supply was maintained in all affected cases.
Similar sabotage acts were also registered in Brandenburg and North Rhine-Westphalia. In a statement of responsibility, there were also indications of planned acts in Saxony. In North Rhine-Westphalia, the search for a suspect was initially discontinued.
