Eight-year-old calls police: mother with 1.91 per mille blood alcohol behind wheel in Lower Saxony
An eight-year-old girl alerted police in Diepholz district after her mother drove whilst intoxicated. The 40-year-old was stopped with a blood alcohol level of 1.91 per mille.
Child calls emergency services: mother drives drunk in swerving pattern
An eight-year-old girl called the emergency number during the night into Saturday in Diepholz district because her mother was driving a car whilst intoxicated. As DER SPIEGEL (Justice & Crime) reports, the distressed child described via the vehicle's hands-free system that the mother had repeatedly drifted into the oncoming lane and was driving in a swerving pattern.
During the telephone call with mother and daughter, Diepholz police succeeded in determining the location of the vehicle. Officers stopped the 40-year-old woman on a grass verge between Lembruch and Düversbruch, north-east of Osnabrück. A breath alcohol test showed 1.91 per mille.
A blood sample was taken from the woman, her driving licence was confiscated and she was prohibited from continuing to drive. No material damage occurred. The daughter was handed over to a family member to supervise. According to police, the 40-year-old must expect criminal proceedings for driving under the influence of alcohol.
