A 35-year-old German Jewish man was slightly injured on Tuesday evening at the Düsseldorf Rhine waterfront. According to zeit.de, citing a police spokeswoman, the authorities are treating the incident as an anti-Israeli motivated attack.
The man was wearing a black sweatshirt with the printed letters "IDF" (Israel Defense Forces) at the time of the incident. Initially, two women approached him and insulted him with anti-Israeli remarks. Subsequently, two men who arrived at the scene allegedly physically attacked the 35-year-old.
The police did not confirm reports that the victim had been wearing a kippah and was thus identifiable as Jewish. The state security service has launched an investigation on suspicion of a politically motivated assault.
The identity of the perpetrators could not be determined so far. Police described the men and one of the women as individuals with "North African phenotype". One of the attackers was said to have had dark, shoulder-length curly hair and was wearing a red jogging suit. Witnesses who can provide information about the incident or those involved are urged to contact the police.
