Escape from Laufen-Lebenau prison: 16- and 18-year-olds arrested in maize field
Two young prisoners fled from the youth prison Laufen-Lebenau in the morning – a few hours later they were arrested in a maize field.

Two juvenile prisoners escaped from the Laufen-Lebenau correctional facility in Upper Bavaria on Thursday morning – and were recaptured the same afternoon. This is reported by the Süddeutsche Zeitung.
According to police, the 16-year-old and 18-year-old managed to escape from an operational building located outside the fenced area of the correctional facility. The exact manner of their escape initially remained unclear. Police provided no further details.
A large-scale search operation was immediately launched, with a helicopter also deployed. The decisive tip came from a correctional facility employee who was on his way home: he observed the two men running into a maize field. Together with the police, he then surrounded the field. Both prisoners were arrested and returned to the correctional facility.
Police assured the public that there had been no danger at any point.
The Laufen-Lebenau correctional facility primarily houses male juveniles and young adults – either in remand custody or following conviction to youth sentences.
