A pensioner from Koserow on the island of Usedom has fallen victim to an online fraudster. The incident occurred in Vorpommern-Greifswald district.

The elderly man's screen turned blue. A telephone number then appeared. The man dialled it and reached someone who claimed to be a representative of the American software giant Microsoft.

The alleged technician offered assistance. The victim then allowed remote access to his computer. During the supposed repair, the criminal transferred money several times in the background. The loss amounts to €25,000.

Investigators emphasise that genuine employees of the company never solve problems in this manner. Relatives should warn pensioners about such tricks.
